Back pain can make it difficult to live your day-to-day routine and may tend to interfere with your plans. Though there are several causes of back pain, sometimes simple home remedies help in treating back pain. However, if the pain is chronic and severe in nature, it is essential to consult a professional immediately. Below are some home remedies that will aid to cure your back pain:

  • Try oils and ointments
    Oils and ointments are great to provide temporary relief from back pain. There are plenty of pain rubs and ointments available to ease the pain by blocking the sensation. Creams with capsaicin can desensitize the pain channels in the areas that are affected. Other ingredients to look for in topical creams to block pain are ketoprofen, ibuprofen, cayenne, etc. Many pieces of research suggest that topical medications may be just as effective as the orals ones. However, for any kind of medication, a doctor’s prescription is essential. People also apply lavender essential oil and similar ointment with acupressure for a considerable reduction in back pain.
  • A good massage is all you need
    To loosen up the muscles and relieve pain, gently massaging a tense or sore muscle is an effective therapy. When massage therapies are performed along with traditional treatments, it aids in reducing back pain, improves back function, minimizes the day in bed and reduces the need to consume anti-inflammatory medicines. There is no such difference between structural massages and relaxation massages except structural massages are usually more expensive.
  • Stretching and yoga
    When you stretch your body, your muscles get the chance to loosen up, and it also strengthens them. Doing yoga or simple stretching exercises at home are a great way to cure a backache. Whenever, you stretch or do yoga poses while having back pain, ensure you do each step gently and with care. Once you get a hand on the stretches and yoga poses, you’ll notice that your back pain has reduced effectively. Also, if your back pain is unaffected or gets worse after trying yoga or stretching, discontinue the same.
  • Take a relaxing bath with Epsom salt
    Epsom salt or magnesium sulfate works on sore muscles by getting through the skin. Back muscles can be eased by simply soaking for about twenty minutes. Also, make sure the water is hot when you take an Epsom salt bath. This is because hot water can cause muscles to swell whereas cold water can cause cramps in the muscles. However, if you have heart problems ensure that the temperature is not too high. The soothing can be further enhanced by a tennis ball or any other ball of the same size. Bring it with you in the tub and then put in on your back and move side to side. This provides an effect that is similar to a back massage and helps to loosen up the tight muscles. Also, one additional benefit is that Epsom salt is great for your skin as it helps to exfoliate dead cells, reduce the itchiness and soften your skin.
  • The right posture to reduce back pain
    Most of us spend most time of our day sitting down, and that can be more harmful than we ever realize. Maintaining a proper posture when you stand and sit is crucial, not maintaining the same is one of the causes of back pain. If you are suffering from back pain, the pain can be minimized by simply maintaining a good posture. Having all the bones in your spine lined up neatly when you sit on a chair is what a correct posture means. It should be like a stalk of perfectly aligned blocks. Ensure that you don’t lean or slump while sitting or standing. Having a proper posture is one of the easiest ways to cure back pain.
  • Ginger
    Ginger root is also a great home remedy for back pain. You can get relief from back pain because of its anti-inflammatory compounds. You can apply some ginger paste on your back where it is paining to get some relief from the pain. You can also cut four to six slices of fresh ginger root and boil it in water. Have this warm mixture as it will help you to relax your back. Consume it two to three times a day for a few days until you see some improvement.
  • Ice packs
    Cold compresses are effective for reducing back pain and swelling. Usually, the cold compress is simply made with ice, but in case if ice is not available, even a bag of frozen vegetables will do the deal. You can also apply alternative cold and hot compress for more effective results.
